“TRICK” started as a TV drama series in 2000. Self-styled “Genius Magician”, Naoko YAMADA (Yukie NAKAMA), and the brilliant physicist, professor UEDA (Hiroshi ABE), debunk the deceiving tricks of psychics and prophets which mislead the innocent. Its original story concept and director, Yukihiko TSUTSUMI’s innovative visual direction which successfully synchronized comedy and mystery, secured a fan following as well as its fame in the TV world. In 2002, season 2 of the TV drama series and the first theatrical feature was released. The theatrical feature ushered in more than 10 million US$ in Japanese box office. In 2003, season 3 of the TV drama series was broadcasted on the prime time slot and resulted in high ratings.
Further, in 2005, “TRICK Special TV Drama” was broadcasted and scored over 20% in rating. It continued when the sequel of the theatrical feature grossed more than 20 million US$ in Japanese box office. Similarly, in 2010, “TRICK Special TV Drama 2”, and part three of the theatrical feature were released which both had successful records.
“TRICK” remains a highly popular and well known national franchise. And it will conclude its 13 year history. The last stage will take place in some country in South East Asia. The baffling mystery throughout the whole series on the existence of a real psychic, will finally be solved.
One day, Kagami, an employee from a well-known trading company visits Ueda (Hiroshi ABE). Kagami says that they have secured mining rights to rare earth elements in a small country in South East Asia, however, they cannot start excavating due to the local residents’ opposition. Thus, he would like Ueda to use his exceptional academic gift to show the local residents that there exists no such unexplained supernatural power that needs to be cautioned. Ueda is flattered and accepts Kagami's request. However, he is flurried when he hears that the one who is heading the local residents is a psychic who has performed various miracles, and that no one returned after going to convince this psychic otherwise. Ueda decides to once again, involve Naoko (Yukie NAKAMA) into this mission.
At that time, Naoko is seeing her mother, Satomi, at her apartment. Satomi, who looks meek as ever, hands over Naoko an amulet to protect her from misfortune. Satomi says “You can get the best out of this amulet.” Naoko ponders if this means that she and her mother are surely psychics who succeed Yuta’s blood from the Kuromon Island. She thinks about this for a while, however, when Satomi says “Now, I can give you a special family discount at 300 thousand yen for this !”, she immediately gets rid of her mother from the apartment. However, while exiting Naoko’s apartment, Satomi shows meaningful color in her eyes...
Meanwhile, Kagami has met up with a land developer, Kawashima and Dr. Tanioka.
Their character is similar to that of Ueda, which means proud and vain.
At any rate, the hastily gathered five head to South East Asia...
