It’s 2006. A man tears through an airport, cell phone in hand. This is Suzutani Hiroshi, a 30-year-old businessman. He is rushing to catch a plane bound for Moji, the southern city where he spent part of his childhood. Wandering the streets of quaint port town for the first time in decades, he finds the sea air, the narrow streets and the inn his grandmother used to own, completely unchanged. Suddenly, a young boy races out in front of him, jolting him from his reverie. Hiroshi is dumbstruck… For standing before him is his 10-year old self, Hiro. Hiroshi can’t believe his eyes.
Entering a cafe, Hiroshi stumbles upon Nunokawa, a yakuza punk he noticed on his flight. Slowly, they realize they’ve traveled back in time 20 years. Even as Hiroshi struggles with the realization, he remembers something. It’s his grandmother’s birthday!
He hurries to his grandmother’s inn where he spent much of his youth, arriving just as a kitchen fire rages out of control. Recognizing the fire as one he started in baking a cake for his grandmother, Hiroshi manages to put it out before any serious damage is done. After this abrupt introduction, Hiroshi takes a job at the inn, rooming with his younger self. The boy, Hiro grows increasing uncomfortable around and irritated by this man who seems to know so much about his feelings. The man and the boy, one person separated by 20 years’ experience, embark on an awkward life together.
One day, Hiroshi encounters, Kazumi, a young woman whose memory he has always cherished. When he first arrived from Tokyo as a boy, it was difficult to make new friends, and he passed many days alone. Kazumi, who had only just returned from music school, became his sole companion. The unlikely pair passed their days in games of chess and violin lessons until it became apparent that Kazumi was gravely ill.
Frightened, the young woman refused their risky surgery that could have saved her life and Hiroshi has never forgiven himself for failing to save her.
If he is to succeed now, he must confront his younger self with Kazumi’s impending death. Hiroshi’s heart is in turmoil… Can he realize his childhood dream by saving his beloved Kazumi’s life? Is the love in his heart powerful enough?
