As an original comic book, “Moteki” sold over 1.8 million copies. But now, with a freshly-penned, completely new and original story by its creator, Mitsuro Kubo, get ready for the blockbusting full-length feature film “Love Strikes!” A young adult male lacking in social skills and clumsy in the affairs of the heart sees his life turn upside down with the sudden arrival of his “moteki”. What unfolds is an noisy and funny romantic comedy that packs plenty of angst and heart as this awkward hero gets thoroughly manhandled by the complexities of love-sex relations, growing (or not growing) in the process. With the brilliantly talented Hitoshi One at the directorial helm, “Love Strikes!” charges full force at the universal themes of youthful love and lust, wavering constantly between the two emotions, with bigger-than-life visuals and an eclectic mix of main and subculture J-POP. It’s the birth of a new type of love spectacle entertainment unlike anything you have ever seen!
“Moteki” is a period in one’s life when a person is most attractive to the opposite sex. For the self-conscious and love-starved Yukiyo, moteki means a complete state of emotional turmoil as he tries to navigate the choppy seas of love amid intermittent waves of euphoria, heartbreak, fantasy and delusion.
Yukiyo Fujimoto, 31, has no money, no aspirations and no girlfriend.
Leaving his temp job, he decides to finally get a life and lands a job as a writer for an Internet news site. But love eludes him.
At the height of his loneliness and social isolation, out of nowhere springs his season of irresistibility - the arrival of “moteki”.
First, he meets Miyuki, a fun and gregarious magazine editor, who shares a lot of Yukiyo’s interests but has a boyfriend.
Then comes Rumiko, Miyuki’s close friend, a pretty but obsessive office worker.
Next is Ai, a gaudy young bar hostess.
Finally there’s Motoko, Yukiyo’s senior colleague, a cool beauty with an acid tongue.
“This is all so new for me,” he tells himself. “Just try to stay calm. No expectations.”
Between these four very different women, Yukiyo gets pushed and pulled in all directions. But will Yukiyo reach the elusive promised land of true love (sex included)?
